Using mobile phone as a modem
One of the most common questions asked about mobile computing is how to connect a cell phone to a laptop for Internet access. Knowing how to share your smartphone’s Internet connection can get you out of sticky situations.
All Android smartphones can generate a wireless Wi-Fi hotspot that your device can access to surf the Web. As long as your network allows, and not all of them do, you can use your mobile phone as a modem by tethering it to your computer. You can connect your cell phone to your computer with a USB cable or via wireless Bluetooth.
Ways to use cell phone as a modem
1-Connect using USB cable (USB Tethering)
Connect your smartphone to the laptop or computer using the USB data cable.
- Go to phone Settings
- Select Wireless and Network
- Select Mobile networks
- Select the Use packet data option
- Select Tethering and portable hotspots
- Select the USB tethering you should see a blue circle icon in the notification bar
- You are now connected to the internet
2- Connect Using WiFi router
Use cell phone as modem by WiFi. Open your smartphone WiFi and then laptop WiFi.
- Go to Settings
- Select Wireless and Network
- Select Mobile networks
- Select Use packet data option
- Select Tethering and portable hotspots
- Go to your laptop
- Search for available wireless networks
- Select available network
- You are now connected to the internet
3- Connect using Bluetooth
Connect your smartphone to the laptop using Bluetooth.
- Go to phone Settings
- Select Tethering and Hotspot menu
- Enable the Bluetooth tethering option
- Pair your pc from your smartphone
- Open control panel
- Access the Bluetooth menu
- Pair it with your smartphone
- Now you can access your smartphone Internet connection.
